P&WC to supply engines for Russia's Mi-38 helicopter
Pratt Whitney Canada (PWC) has signed a memorandum of understanding with Helicopters of Russia to supply PW127TS engines for the Mi-38 utility helicopter.
Under the terms of the deal ? finalised in Moscow earlier today ? PWC will develop and certificate a turboshaft version of the PW127 for the twin-engine Mi-38 in partnership with the Ufa Engine Industrial Association (Umpo) and the Central Institute of Aviation Motors. The powerplants will be assembled under licence by Umpo, while Kazan Helicopters will manufacture the Mi-38.

Embraer resumes analysis of turboprops
Developing a new commercial turboprop is under renewed analysis at Embraer, and could provide an eventual substitution for the Brazilian manufacturer?s small regional jets.
In the past Embraer backed away from a new turboprop, concluding that the market, which includes ATR and Bombardier, was too small for three players. But demand for larger turboprops has been increasing due to soaring fuel prices.
?We definitely have a much higher focus on the issue than in the past,? revealed Embraer president and CEO Frederico Fleury Curado during a press briefing this morning in Washington DC.
Part of Embraer?s consideration is whether a new turboprop might prove a good substitute for 50-seaters down the road ?when ERJs become obsolete?, says Curado.

Thai picks Trent 900 for A380s
Thai Airways International has selected the Rolls-Royce Trent 900 engine to power the six Airbus A380s it has on firm order.
A spokeswoman says from Bangkok that the Star Alliance carrier?s board met yesterday and selected the Trent 900 over the Engine Alliance GP7200.
The spokeswoman says the carrier?s first A380 is due for delivery around the middle of 2010.
Thai placed its order for six A380s in 2004. Deliveries were originally due in 2008 and 2009 but they were pushed back as a result of to delays in the programme.
The carrier?s existing widebody aircraft from Airbus and Boeing are powered by engines from all three major manufacturers, General Electric,
Airbus confirms new A380 delays
Airbus has confirmed a new round of delays to the A380 programme that will affect deliveries at least this year and next year.
The manufacturer says in a statement that it has ?completed the A380 programme review and is now informing customers about changes to its delivery schedule?.
It says it now plans for 12 deliveries this year, rather than 13 as previously expected, and 21 next year, instead of 25.
?Details about the new plan and the further ramp-up and delivery slots in 2010 and the following years will be discussed with customers in the coming weeks,? it adds.
